You think the Honey Badger Cares? It doesn’t give a shit.
This is such a great piece by Dan Pink called Drive.
It inspired the following thoughts...Are firms fearful of entrepreneurial drive? They idea that there maybe another way to do something
We all know that start-ups are entrepreneurial hubs, their size gives way to open, collaborative working and nothing brings a team closer together than an all night Hackathon, which they do regularly. Hackathons push the team to think outside their given box, allowing individuals to pursue product ideas no matter how crazy they may seem and gauge if there's an audience within the firm. So many new and exciting ideas / products come from Hackathons, just check out what Facebook have done.
Should established firms be taking a closer look at office/hackathons? The answer in my option is, absolutely! Firms often lose their best talent to start-ups for multiple reasons, and more often than not, it's because they offer little to keep bright stars engaged. Would Microsoft not have benefited from having office/hackathons in the early 90's to 2000?
So when you're thinking how to motivate your team, maybe look at a Hackathon and create something new and exciting.....
